SedimentSTOP® is a fully biodegradable filtration system consisting of a straw/coconut fiber matrix reinforced with biodegradable netting. SedimentSTOP is packaged like an erosion control blanket but is unrolled and re-rolled widthwise to create a seamless 50 foot (15.24 m) long temporary, water-permeable structure – twice the length of typical straw wattles.
SedimentSTOP is a Best Management Practice (BMP) used as a slope interruption device, perimeter control or to promote vegetative buffer strips. SedimentStop offers improved sediment filtration capabilities and sediment retention over wattles, straw bales or silt fence.
Wattles
Nilex Wattles are tubes of recycled, compressed, 100% agricultural straw wrapped in tubular UV stabilized black synthetic netting. Fertile topsoil, organic matter and native seeds become trapped behind straw wattles, providing a stable medium for germination. Wattles retain moisture and can aid in growth of tree seedlings planted up-slope. Wattles are also available with biodegradable netting.
