Nilex has developed a lightweight, sustainable alternative to conventional check dams. GeoRidge is a permeable plastic berm that has been designed for erosion and sediment control. It can be used with both permanent and biodegradable erosion blankets and is effective in reducing water velocity, spreading water over a wider area, trapping sediment, and aiding in revegetation. GeoRidge is intended to provide a temporary reduction in flow velocities until such time that vegetation is able to establish. By acting as an energy dissipater, GeoRidge reduces flow velocities causing silt to settle upstream of the check dam. The permeable design allows for the dissipation of energy both through and over the structure. Reduced water velocity also results in minimized downstream erosion. Compared to straw bales, rock check dams, wattles, and other synthetic devices, GeoRidge consistently delivers competitive erosion and sediment control results.
When choosing GeoRidge, there are two options available:
GeoRidge is constructed of a durable UV stabilized High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), giving it very good resistance to UV and normally occurring soil conditions. GeoRidge should be removed once vegetation is established – it can be reused for future projects.
GeoRidge Bio® (Biodegradeable)
GeoRidge Bio is an excellent alternative to Nilex’s standard GeoRidge product. Rather than removing once vegetation has been established, GeoRidge Bio breaks down over time. With the incorporation of technologically advanced additives, GeoRidge Bio check dams will degrade over an 18 to 24 month period (degradation time is dependent upon environmental conditions). The interaction with environmental conditions and naturally occurring micro-organisms causes degradation of the material.
GeoRidge®/GeoRidge Bio® and Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRM)
Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs) are a cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to hard armor erosion protection solutions such as concrete and riprap. They are designed to impart immediate erosion protection, enhance vegetation establishment, and provide long-term functionality by permanently reinforcing vegetation during and after maturation. GeoRidge/GeoRidge Bio, when installed in a TRM reinforced channel, will aid in the revegetation process by slowing down the water velocities, allowing vegetation to establish sooner. Once vegetation is in place, the GeoRidge can be removed (GeoRidge Bio will degrade over time) and the TRM structure can be maintained without obstruction.For more information visit the TRM page.
Nilex silt fence is used around the perimeter of construction areas to help protect streams, rivers, lakes and other aquatic resources as well as terrestrial resources from contamination by silt, sediment and construction debris.

Erosion and Sediment Control
Nilex straw wattles are an effective and economical alternative to silt fence and straw bales for sediment control and stormwater runoff. Fertile topsoil, organic matter, and native seeds become trapped behind straw wattles, providing a stable medium for germination. The wattles consist of tubes of recycled, compressed, 100% agricultural straw wrapped in tubular UV stabilized black synthetic netting (biodegradable netting is also available). They retain moisture from rainfall and can aid in growth of tree seedlings planted up-slope.
SedimentSTOP is a temporary sediment filtration device that provides highly effective sediment control for a wide range of applications. SedimentSTOP consists of a 70% straw/30% coconut fiber matrix reinforced with a 100% biodegradable netting that is rolled from edge to edge to create a seamless temporary, water-permeable three-dimensional sediment filtration structure.
SedimentSTOP reduces soil loss caused by stormwater run-off, traps soil particles while allowing water to pass through, and protects waterways, sidewalks, and roads from sediment accumulation. It is easy to install and features a two to three year functional lifespan. The structurally sound net-reinforced layers prevent failures – even if the outer netting wrap is damaged during or after installation.
Because it is field fabricated, SedimentSTOP allows for greater flexibility in meeting specific site requirements, and the diameter of the finished roll can be increased, if necessary, by adding other organic materials such as grass clippings, pine needles, straw, or leaves. The 15.24 m (50 foot) finished length minimizes seam construction, while the lightweight rolls can be easily transported over difficult terrain or to remote areas.

Nilex’s water inflated dams, Aqua-Barrier™ portable cofferdams, are water-inflated temporary dams that provide an economical, effective, and safe alternative to conventional dam methods such as sand bags, earthen berms, and mechanical barriers. They accommodate construction worksite dewatering, flood control, and other critical, rapid-deployment situations that require effective spill containment. Applications include pipeline installation and repair, shoreline stabilization, bridge construction and repair, and boat ramp installations.
Extensive engineering has gone into the design of Aqua-Barrier, resulting in a water control system that is safe, stable, and effective. The patented internal baffle system provides stability, creating the safest barrier system available. Aqua-Barriers can be custom built to sizes ranging from 0.30 - 2.44 metres (1 - 8 feet) in height and 1.83 - 32 metres (6 - 105 feet) in length. In addition, they have been designed to meet or exceed stringent environmental agency water control restrictions.
Aqua-Barrier can be inflated with any available water source - upon completion, simply drain the barriers for quick removal. It is the most rapidly installed and removed temporary water damming and diversion system available.

Turbidity or Floating Silt Curtains are flexible sediment control barriers designed to prevent the spread of silt and sediment in lakes and other water bodies when work is being performed in water, or on or near the shoreline.
Constructed of permeable or non-permeable material, the Turbidity Curtain is suspended vertically in the water with flotation material enclosed in the top pocket and a ballast chain enclosed in the lower pocket. Nilex provides standard and custom fabricated sizes with material options and curtain depths and lengths to suit your project needs.

Inlet protection is available in a variety of formats, from biodegradable sediment filtration systems to reusable sediment control ditch berms. They also come in a range of sizes to fit varying inlet configurations.

Erosion & Sediment Control
Dewatering bags, fabricated from geotextile material, filter sediment-laden water from construction sites. As site water is pumped into the bag, much of the sediment is retained by the geotextile fabric allowing filtered water to pass through.
Dewatering bags are portable, easy to install and remove and are available in custom sizes and geotextile specifications to meet individual job requirements.
